Dr. Elizabeth Matzkina, Chief of Women’s Sports Medicine has developed a robust research program with primary research interests involving sex differences in musculoskeletal medicine. Her clinical research has focused on patient reported outcome measures on topics including rotator cuff tears, labral tears, ACL injuries, meniscus tears and the female athlete triad.
Surgical Outcomes System Database
The OrthoIllustrated Surgical Outcome System (SOS) is a sports medicine global registry, that is HIPAA compliant, cloud-based and tablet-friendly. The intuitive platform enables surgeons to easily collect and analyze patient outcomes and procedures to address the demands of evidence-based medicine.

The Sports Medicine Program and Women's Sports Medicine Program at the Brigham offers comprehensive multidisciplinary care for patients with musculoskeletal sports injuries. We are committed to providing the highest quality care to our patients, including competitive and recreational athletes.
Summer Internship
The Women’s Sports Medicine service at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is a busy and renowned sports medicine practice led by Dr. Elizabeth Matzkin. We offer medical students who are interested in orthopedics and women’s sports medicine an opportunity to spend their summer participating in clinical research and job shadowing in orthopedics.
